The US Mint has confirmed that it is launching its one-ounce 2009 American Buffalo gold proof coin on October 29th.

It will begin accepting orders for the coin from this date, with no mintage or order limits to be applied to the piece.

The coin features a design based on the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel created by James Earle Fraser.

Earlier this month, the mint launched the one-ounce 2009 American Buffalo gold bullion coin and said it will release its latest American Eagle gold bullion coins in the one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce and one-tenth ounce weights on December 3rd.

Recent figures showed that 71,500 American Buffalo gold bullion coins were sold by the US Mint between their launch on October 15th and October 19th.

According to CoinNews, this shows that demand for the piece is "exceptionally hot", as the figure is equivalent to almost half of the American Buffalo coins sold last year.
